Kenya Power has issued a public statement dismissing claims that transformers removed from Mbeere North were transferred to Ol Kalou in Nyandarua county for political purposes, saying the units were taken away strictly for technical maintenance. Kenya Power has explained why it removed 15 transformers from Mbeere North. The state-owned electricity distributor posted the clarification on its official Facebook page on Thursday, July 9, responding to a wave of social media allegations that the government had relocated the equipment to curry favour with voters ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election. What Kenya Power said about Mbeere North transformers According to the utility firm, 15 transformers were collected from Mbeere North between May and June 2025 as part of a scheduled maintenance programme.
Kenya Power said faults such as water ingress had made it necessary to transport the units to workshops, where they would undergo repairs, testing, and heat drying before being returned to service. The company confirmed that 14 of the 15 transformers had already been repaired and reinstalled in the area. The remaining unit, which Kenya Power said had been vandalised, was scheduled for replacement on Friday, 10 July 2026. Kenya Power added that this type of intervention had delivered measurable results, saying the maintenance approach had significantly reduced transformer failures in the region over the past three years. “These interventions are purely technical, aimed at ensuring safe, reliable, and stable electricity supply,” Kenya Power said in the statement, posted under the hashtag #PamojaTwangaa.
