Classic 105 presenter Mike Mondo has sparked a significant public discussion regarding modern relationships in Kenya, and during a recent Morning Conversation alongside co-host Mwalimu King’ang’i, the radio personality advocated strongly for the marriage of single mothers.
He described them as some of the most responsible and capable partners a man could choose.
A Personal Endorsement
While the topic often attracts varied opinions, Mondo drew directly from his own life to support his stance. He shared that his advocacy is rooted in personal satisfaction rather than mere theory.
“I married a single mother, and I’m very proud of it. I’m very happy and content,” he stated.
The presenter challenged the stigma often associated with dating women who already have children. He insisted that there is no one more “amazing” to marry, citing his own experience as evidence of the joy such a union can bring.
“There’s no one as amazing to marry as a single mother, and I’m talking out of experience,” he added.
The ‘Empty Nest’ Reality
A central theme of Mondo’s argument was the future of single parents once their children grow up. He pointed out that many single mothers focus entirely on their children, often neglecting their own need for companionship.
He noted that children eventually graduate and leave the home to start their own lives. Mondo questioned what the plan is for these women once they are left alone in their sunset years.
“Who fills that gap? What is the plan? Why is it that you don’t want a companion you can continue doing life with?” he questioned.

Mondo listed several traits that he believes make single mothers superior partners. He claimed he could provide at least 15 reasons why they are the best choice for marriage. According to him, these include financial discipline, emotional maturity, and a lack of interest in playing games.
“They don’t play games, they’re emotionally mature they appreciate genuine love they are financially disciplined.”
He further described these women as hardworking and protective. He noted their ability to manage resources effectively, suggesting they are excellent at handling household finances.
Addressing Male Fears
Despite Mondo’s praise, the conversation revealed deep-seated fears among Kenyan men. Some callers shared negative experiences, such as children being told their stepfather was not their biological parent after years of support. Others mentioned the “baggage” of unresolved attachments to biological fathers.
Mondo, however, remained firm in his recommendation. He urged men to stop shying away from these relationships, describing single mothers as resilient individuals who value commitment.
