Bungoma Queens surge to third, eye league title

Bungoma Queens secured a pivotal 1-0 victory over Kisped Queens on Sunday in the FKF Women’s Premier League, marking a season-defining moment for head coach Godfrey Mabonga and his team.

Initially aiming for a draw, Mabonga told Citizen Digital that he hoped to earn at least one point. But the team’s persistence and well-executed strategy earned them a full three points, moving them up to third in the standings with 9 points, just one behind the joint leaders, Kibera Soccer Women and Vihiga Queens.

“This win is a testament to the players’ hard work and careful planning,” Mabonga noted, expressing his gratitude for the result.“Our original goal was to secure a single point since we were playing away, but I’m thankful we achieved more. Taking all three points is a great reward for the effort and determination the players have shown.”

The narrow victory highlights Bungoma Queens’ growing ambition in the top tier of women’s football. Mabonga’s main objective remains a top-four finish, but he sees potential for even more.

“We’ll keep working hard to maintain our position in the top four,” he affirmed. “And if things go our way, we might even contend for the title this season.”

Moving into third place has given Bungoma Queens fresh momentum, especially in the tightly contested league. With just a point separating them from the leaders, they remain within striking distance of a possible top spot as the season unfolds.
