Body of infant killed, buried in shallow grave in Nyandarua exhumed

Police in Aberdare Subcounty, Nyandarua county, are investigating a tragic murder incident involving a four-month-old infant whose body was recovered from a shallow grave in a forest.

According to the police, the matter was initially reported after concerns were raised over a missing infant in Mwihangia Village, Karandi area.

Police officers from Shamata Police Station responded and launched investigations that led them to the infant’s mother.

During interrogation, she alleged that she had a dispute with the child’s father, a casual labourer in the area, over responsibility for the child.

She further alleged that on the night of April 10, 2026, at around 10:30 pm, she left the infant outside the father’s gate after finding it closed.

Further investigations led police to a forested area where the father allegedly guided officers to a shallow grave.

The infant’s body was recovered and later exhumed.

The scene was processed and documented by investigators before the body was moved to Nyahururu County Referral Morgue, pending post-mortem examination.

Both the mother and the alleged father were detained as investigations continue, police said, adding they wanted to know more from them.

In a different incident, police are investigating the murder of a 70-year-old woman in Kailo/Mnyalani Village, Rabai Subcounty, Kilifi county.

The motive of the murder was not immediately established, police said on Monday, adding the hunt for the killers was ongoing.

The police said the murder is the latest in a series where the elderly are targeted in the area at large.

Preliminary accounts indicate that she had briefly stepped outside the house when a commotion was heard moments later.

Her daughter rushed out and found her lying in a pool of blood approximately two metres from the house.

The body had deep cuts on the left and the back side of the head, suggesting a violent attack.

Police moved the body to Coast General Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

The assailant or assailants remain unknown, and the murder weapon was not recovered.

Elsewhere, police in Matuga Subcounty, Kwale county, are investigating the death of an unidentified middle-aged man whose body was discovered at Kombani Junction.
