Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, hosted Kenya’s First Daughter Charlene Ruto at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
Charlene attended the meeting with a small delegation that included George Nkya, the Honorary Consul of Morocco, as well as Festus Orina, Varsheeni Ragupathy and Jane Frances Acilo.
Although the official purpose of the visit was described as strengthening “bilateral, cultural and ancestral ties,” the encounter attracted attention due to previous comments made by the Ugandan general on social media.

Social Media Proposal That Sparked Attention
In December 2025, Muhoozi sparked widespread discussion after posting on X that he was ready to marry the Kenyan president’s daughter.
His remarks came shortly after comments made by William Ruto encouraging young people to consider marriage and family life.
While speaking at the wedding of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi’s son at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on November 29, 2025, President Ruto urged young men to be decisive about relationships and marriage.
He repeated a similar message during a church service at AIC Milimani in Nairobi the following day, encouraging young adults not to delay settling down.
Muhoozi later responded online, joking that he was prepared to marry Charlene Ruto and asking how many cows would be required as bride price, referencing the traditional dowry practice common in many African cultures.
Mixed Reactions Online
The posts quickly spread across social media and sparked mixed reactions. Some users treated the remarks as playful banter, while others felt the comments crossed diplomatic lines between the neighbouring countries.
In February 2026, the Ugandan general appeared to soften his tone, posting that he was ready to “pay cows” if necessary to correct any misunderstandings caused by the earlier remarks.
Entebbe Meeting Signals Diplomatic Shift
Against that backdrop, Charlene’s visit to Entebbe seemed to signal a shift from online exchanges to formal engagement.
Charlene Ruto, who has increasingly positioned herself as a youth advocate and public figure in her own right, arrived with a delegation that included diplomats and advisers.

After the meeting, Muhoozi spoke about strengthening the longstanding relationship between Kenya and Uganda, describing it as a brotherhood that goes beyond geographical borders. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation in areas such as security and trade.
Symbolism of the Military Venue
The choice of venue also drew attention. The Special Forces Command headquarters is a key installation for Uganda’s elite military unit, and hosting a visiting First Daughter there underscored Muhoozi’s influence as both a senior military officer and a prominent political figure.
Observers have long speculated that Muhoozi could eventually succeed his father in Uganda’s leadership, especially as the country approaches the next election cycle.
