A record 300 golfers register for Lady Captain’s Prize at Ruiru Sports Club

A record field of more than 300 golfers is set to take part in the Lady Captain’s Prize at Ruiru Sports Club, capping a week-long golfing festival that blends competition, community engagement, and celebration.

The festivities begin on February 23 with a Caddies and Staff Golf Day, a gesture to recognise the role of support teams in the club’s daily operations. The following day features a Senior Golf Day and Mini Clubnite, offering both competitive and social activities for members.

On February 25, attention shifts to the fairways with a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, alongside a Greensomes tournament. The Lady Captain’s Prize curtain-raiser follows on February 26, before a Koroga-themed Chip and Putt event on February 27.

The main event on February 28, to be played on the club’s 18-hole course, is expected to draw one of the largest fields in recent memory. The week-long programme will conclude on March 1 with a Juniors Mug Tournament, highlighting the club’s growing investment in youth development.

The tournament will also mark the end of Lady Captain Rodah Mukami’s two-year term in office. She said the event is less about her departure and more about the collective progress made during her tenure.

“This tournament is not just about my exit; it is about the incredible journey we have walked together as a club,” Mukami said. “Over the past two years, we have seen our ladies grow in confidence and competitiveness, and our juniors step up with remarkable promise. That is the true victory.”

The event has attracted strong corporate backing, led by Family Bank as the main sponsor. Other sponsors include Dhahabu Land Ltd, Croton Motors, Aurora Scents, Lady Captain and Friends, Compnet Advisory Systems, Fantom Estates, Auto Master, and Shell.

Mukami leaves office after overseeing several milestones for the club, including hosting the KLGU Ladies 54-Hole Tournament and the inaugural Kenya Ladies Golf Union Golfer of the Year event. The club also staged the historic Pendant Tournament for the first time, reinforcing its growing prominence in women’s golf.

Ruiru has also strengthened its development structures, now boasting two female golfers in its elite team and a growing crop of junior girls progressing steadily toward single-handicap status.
