Investigations launched after man found dead in Mlolongo

Police in Mlolongo, Machakos County, are investigating a sudden death incident after a man’s body was found lying on the street early Friday.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), attached to Mlolongo Police Station, moved to the scene following the discovery. The incident was reported at the station the same day as a sudden death.

Confirming the incident, Athi River East Sub-county Police Commander Anderson Mbae told the Star that the death occurred at an unknown time and date in the Madharau area of Mlolongo Township.

Mbae said the deceased was believed to be a Ugandan national aged about 35 years, although this information had not yet been verified.

“A village elder reported to the station that a person who had been sickly and living alone had died. Police officers rushed to the scene and established that the deceased, believed to be a Ugandan aged about 35 years, may have died during the day, as he had been seen struggling earlier in the morning,” Mbae said.

He added that the man had no identification documents at the time his body was found, and his identity and place of origin remain unknown.

The scene was processed, and the body was removed to the City Mortuary, where it is being held pending identification and a postmortem examination.

Police said the body had no visible injuries but appeared emaciated at the time it was recovered.

An inquest file, number 03, has been opened at the station, and investigations are ongoing.

Separately, police in Machakos County are investigating another incident reported a few days earlier in Yatta, where the body of a woman was found lying outside a bush.

Police said the body was removed from the scene after a member of the public reported the incident upon discovering it.

The body was taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are ongoing.
