The Kenyan entertainment industry and faithful admirers of gospel music are mourning the loss of Mrs. Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, affectionately known as Joy, who passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 3 a.m.
She was the beloved wife of renowned gospel DJ, Karumba Ngatia, popularly known as DJ Krowbar.
Joy had battled health complications following a kidney transplant last year. While she had briefly returned home two weeks before her passing, she was re-admitted for care in the weeks leading up to her death.
Her family described her as a woman of immense courage and faith, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and devotion to her family. She is survived by her husband, DJ Krowbar, and their three children: Toria, Riri, and Imani.
The family held daily prayer meetings at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi from January 27 to 30, 2026, giving friends and admirers a chance to honor her memory and offer support during this difficult time.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Nairobi Chapel, Ngong Road, starting at 10 a.m., allowing guests to celebrate Joy’s life through reflections, music, and shared memories.
Joy’s final journey will culminate in her funeral service and interment in Naro Moru, Nyeri, on Thursday, February 5, 2026, where family and close friends will lay her to rest.
In a statement following her passing, the Karumba family said:
