Ewoi looks to keep strong 2026 momentum at New York’s Millrose meet

World 1,500m silver medallist Dorcus Ewoi will look to build on her strong start to the 2026 season when she competes in the Mile at the Millrose Games in New York on Sunday.
Ewoi heads into the prestigious indoor meet in a confident mood after delivering a statement performance at last weekend’s New Balance Indoor Grand Prix.
Competing in the women’s 1,500m short track, the 29-year-old clocked a world-leading and personal best 4:01.22, underlining her credentials as one of the early-season athletes to watch.
American Sinclaire Johnson finished second in 4:01.30, with Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska third in 4:01.78.
“I have so much confidence and I know I can push more and get even more,” Ewoi said after the race, reflecting the belief that has carried over from a breakthrough 2025 season.
Ewoi announced herself on the global stage last September in Tokyo, where she clinched her first major international medal by winning silver in the 1,500m at the World Championships.
She clocked 3:54.92, finishing behind four-time world champion Faith Kipyegon, who took gold in 3:52.15, while Australia’s Jessica Hull claimed bronze in 3:55.16.
Her 2025 indoor campaign featured steady progression, including a second-place finish in the 800m at the Arkansas Invitational, fourth in the Mile at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, and runner-up in the Mile at the Boston University Invitational.
Outdoors, Ewoi won the Mile at the Boston Invitational, placed third in the Diamond League Rabat 1,500m, and finished seventh in the 800m at the Kip Keino Classic.
Joining Ewoi in New York will be fellow Kenyan Susan Ejore, who is seeking to rediscover consistency after an up-and-down 2025 season.
Ejore opened her indoor campaign strongly with a second-place finish in the Mile at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, before placing fifth in the 1,500m at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China.
Her outdoor season included a runner-up finish at the Diamond League Doha, though her World Championships bid ended at the semi-final stage in Tokyo.
At Millrose, the Kenyan duo will face strong opposition from a quality field that includes Olympic 1,500m silver medallist Jessica Hull and American Nikki Hiltz, the 2024 World Indoor silver medallist.
