Kenyan musician and entrepreneur Akothee has issued a sharp response to fans. Many followers have been pressuring her to explain the absence of Nelly Oaks from her online life.
This comes weeks after she subtly announced she was single again.
The star used a viral TikTok video to set the record straight. She questioned why fans were so obsessed with her former manager and partner. She even asked if they had heard any news suggesting he was deceased.

A Relationship Ended in Secret
Nelly Oaks, whose real name is Nelson Oyugi, has been a major figure in Akothee’s life for over eight years. He supported her through various personal struggles and legal battles. However, the pair has a history of public breakups.
In her latest video, Akothee revealed that the relationship actually ended months ago. She pointed to June as the time they officially called it quits.
“Where did he go? Have you heard he was announced dead? Rubbish manipulation. We broke up a long time ago in June,” Akothee ranted.
She insisted that the split was mutual and not a cause for public mourning.
“We are not complaining. Why are you complaining on our behalf? We ended our love, but you are still stuck there,” she added.

“No Romance Without Finance”
Before this fierce rant, Akothee had already hinted at her single status. On 19 December, she shared a post from an airport wearing a stylish olive-green outfit. She used the moment to set a high bar for any future suitors.
She told her followers not to “hit on her” if they could not afford her lifestyle. She specified that a partner should be able to cover at least a quarter of her bills. She famously stated that “there is no romance without finance.”
A Foundation of Mutual Respect
Despite the sharp tone of her video, Akothee clarified that there is no bad blood between her and Nelly Oaks. She explained that they choose not to insult one another in public. This is because they still hold a high level of respect for their past.
“We broke up a long time ago in June, and I am not complaining. We enjoyed our love until it finished. We don’t insult each other because we have mad respect for each other.”

She encouraged her fans to adopt a similar mindset regarding moving on. She noted that when love ends, it is time to leave it behind. She reminded her audience that there are plenty of other people in the world.
“When love ends, let it be. There are a lot of women and men, so why get stuck to one person’s love?”
Focusing on the Family
The singer expressed frustration that her followers seemed more concerned about her ex-partner than her own children. She suggested that the public’s refusal to move on was a form of “manipulation.”
Akothee remains one of Kenya’s most followed celebrities, often referred to as the “President of Single Mothers.” While she is now officially single, she remains focused on her business empire and her family.
Nelly Oaks has yet to issue a public statement regarding the recent video or the confirmed June breakup.
