Why Kenyans are Obsessed with Mauno254’s Latest M-Pesa Skit

Kenyan comedian and content creator Swings Mauno254 has once again struck a chord with online audiences after releasing a hilarious TikTok skit centred on one of the country’s most relatable financial realities — Fuliza.

The video, which has quickly gained traction on social media, humorously captures the frustration many Kenyans experience when Safaricom deducts Fuliza balances directly from M-Pesa, sometimes without the familiar comfort of entering a PIN.

In the skit, Mauno254 delivers his lines with exaggerated disbelief and comic desperation, repeatedly pleading, “Msinifulizie walaai!” — loosely translated as “Please don’t deduct it, I swear!”

His character expresses shock at how Fuliza seemingly “helps itself” to money the moment funds hit the M-Pesa wallet, leaving users with little time to celebrate their balance before it vanishes.

What makes the content particularly engaging is its accuracy.

Fuliza, Safaricom’s popular overdraft service, has become a lifeline for millions of Kenyans during tight financial moments.

However, it has also become a source of endless jokes, memes and skits because of how quickly it recovers owed amounts once money is received.

In the video, he jokingly questions why Fuliza does not require an M-Pesa PIN to deduct money, dramatically suggesting that it behaves like an uninvited guest who knows the house too well.

He pleads with “Sha” — slang often used to refer to Safaricom — to at least warn him before sweeping his balance clean.

The exaggerated begging and expressive facial reactions elevate the skit, making it instantly relatable to anyone who has ever used Fuliza.

Social media users have flooded the comment section with laughter, with many admitting that the skit mirrors their real-life experiences.

Some joked that Fuliza has “VIP access” to their wallets, while others praised Mauno254 for saying out loud what many Kenyans think every payday or after receiving emergency funds.

The video has also reignited conversations about digital loans, financial discipline and how humour has become a coping mechanism in tough economic times.

Mauno254 has steadily built a reputation for transforming ordinary Kenyan struggles into viral content.
