At least 22 people have been killed and dozens injured after a construction crane fell on top of a moving train carriage.
The police confirmed that 22 people have died, while 79 others are injured. Eight of those wounded have severe injuries.
The accident took place on Wednesday morning in Nakhon Ratchasima province, north of the capital Bangkok.
The incident happened around 09:00 local time (02:00 GMT) as construction work for an express trail line was ongoing, Thatchapon Chinnawong, a police superintendent in Nakhon Ratchasima told the BBC.
“The construction crane collapsed onto a running train leaving from Bangkok,” he said.
The death toll is expected to rise as rescuers are still removing bodies from the wrecked train car.
According to the train’s seating plan, there were 195 passengers and staff members on board.
Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Phipat Ratchakitprakarn, has ordered a “thorough and comprehensive investigation” into the cause of the accident.
