Sarah Mtalii Confronts Simon Kabu Over Mystery Woman at Bonfire Party

Bonfire Adventures co-founder Sarah Njoki, better known as Sarah Mtalii, has surprised many after candidly sharing her thoughts about her former husband, Simon Kabu, more than a year after their highly publicised separation.

The once-admired power couple made headlines when their seemingly perfect marriage unravelled in the public eye.

Recently, the two found themselves back in the spotlight after attending Bonfire Adventures’ end-of-year staff party, where an awkward moment quickly set tongues wagging.

Awkward Moment at Company Party

Eyebrows were raised when Simon walked into the event holding hands with a striking woman, immediately fuelling speculation that he may have moved on romantically.

The moment became even more uncomfortable when Simon, the woman and Sarah briefly posed for a photo together. Observers noted Sarah glancing at the pair before deliberately looking away.

Addressing the speculation later, Simon clarified that the woman was his niece, Pauline Mwaura, who works as a tour consultant at Bonfire Adventures. Sarah, however, questioned the optics of the situation.

“Why would you guys hold hands like that in front of us? What were we supposed to think?” she asked.

Simon maintained that he had done nothing inappropriate, insisting he is free to associate with anyone and has not yet introduced a romantic partner to the public.

“I am an adult. I would not do things out of context. Relax. When the time comes, I will be the first to tell you,” he said, adding that Sarah was not upset by the incident.

Sarah’s Unexpected Prayer for Simon

In a moment that caught many off guard, Sarah confirmed she was not angry and went a step further by revealing that she regularly prays for Simon to find a good partner — for the sake of their children.

“I pray for you every day that you may find a good person who will not disturb my kids,” she said.

Her comments sparked intense discussion online, with netizens divided on whether lingering feelings still exist between the former couple or whether their remarks simply reflect mature co-parenting.

Online Reactions Pour In

The exchange quickly ignited debate across social media platforms. Some users suggested the two were still emotionally connected, while others lamented the breakdown of their marriage and expressed hope for reconciliation.

Many commenters praised Sarah’s maturity, while others criticised Simon for what they felt was poor judgement at a public work event involving his ex-wife.

A Relationship That Played Out in Public

Sarah and Simon’s journey has been one of love, ambition, family and very public conflict. The pair met in 2007 through an online Google group and later bonded during a group trip to Lukenya Hills. That same year, they began organising trips together — a venture that eventually grew into Bonfire Adventures.

Simon proposed to Sarah in 2008 at Amboseli Observation Hill, and they married in 2009 at Lake Naivasha Country Club. Over the years, they welcomed two children and built one of Kenya’s most recognisable travel brands.

Cracks began to show publicly in 2021 when Sarah hinted at marital troubles online. In 2022, their disagreements spilled onto social media before a brief reconciliation, followed by a pregnancy announcement.

However, tensions resurfaced, and in December 2024, Sarah confirmed she had moved out of their matrimonial home, saying she had found peace and happiness away from the marriage.

Background on the Current Situation

Since their separation, Sarah and Simon have continued to co-parent while maintaining professional ties through Bonfire Adventures.

Although both have stated they are focusing on personal healing and their children, their interactions continue to attract public scrutiny, with many Kenyans closely watching how the former couple navigates life, business and parenthood after divorce.
