Comedian Mammito Eunice has shared her experience with changing economic realities, saying that the amount she used to receive as girlfriend allowance has reduced drastically in recent years.
Speaking during a light-hearted discussion, Mammito noted that her monthly or occasional support from partners was once considerably higher but has since declined.
Allowance Once at 10,000 Now Reduced to Smaller Amounts
During an interview with podcaster Mr. Mombasa,Mammito said that before the current economic period, she would receive at least 10,000 shillings as girlfriend allowance.
According to her, this amount was relatively consistent and reflected the financial comfort many people enjoyed at the time.
She explained that the situation is now different, with most partners offering between 1,000 and 500 shillings.
“Nilikuwa napewa 10k at least but sahii na hii economy, labda hata one thousand, five hundred…” she said.
The comedian said the shift illustrates how financial pressures have affected personal relationships and social expectations.
She added that the change is not unique to her, noting that many women have reported receiving less support than in previous years.
Economic Hardship Affecting Personal Spending
Mammito linked the reduced allowance to the economic difficulties many Kenyans are currently facing.
She said rising living costs, increased responsibilities and shifting financial priorities have left many people unable to maintain the support they once gave their partners.
She explained that the adjustment is visible across social settings, with individuals re-evaluating their spending patterns to focus on essential needs.
According to her, this has had a notable impact on lifestyle habits, social outings and financial gestures in relationships.
Highlighting Realities Faced by Young Adults
The comedian stated that her comments reflect the experiences of many young adults navigating relationships during financially challenging times.
She said discussions around allowances, dating costs and shared responsibilities have become more common as people adjust to the changing economic landscape.
Mammito noted that the topic often forms part of wider conversations about the cost of living and how it affects social dynamics.
She said that while the allowance topic is humorous, it also captures a reality many people can relate to.
Social Reaction and Broader Conversations
Her remarks have sparked online conversations among fans and social media users, many of whom shared their own experiences with rising expenses and reduced financial capacity.
Others joked about adjusting expectations or reevaluating lifestyle demands.
Mammito said the conversation highlights how economic shifts influence relationships, adding that people are increasingly prioritising survival needs over luxury spending.
