Kenyans have united online to support a female university student who revealed that none of her family members will attend her graduation on December 4 at Kasarani Stadium.
The student shared her emotional experience on TikTok, saying she wished she would still receive flowers and hugs on her big day despite feeling abandoned.
Her post quickly went viral, triggering an outpouring of offers ranging from free rides, makeup sessions, wigs, lashes, dresses, cakes and photoshoots to ensure she does not celebrate alone.
In her caption, she wrote: “This is me, almost losing it all, wishing on 11 that I’ll still get flowers and hugs that day. I just wanted to celebrate my day with close ones. Family isn’t always by blood so I hope that day the universe will bring me a new family.”
Soon after her message circulated widely, Kenyans began volunteering to stand in as her family for the event. Many insisted that she would not walk into the graduation venue alone.
With dozens offering services and presence, the student’s situation sparked a wider conversation about chosen family and collective kindness.
