After suffering their first loss of the season in the National Super League, Soy United have shifted focus to their next fixture against high-flying Kibera Black Stars.
On Saturday, Soy United, coached by Jeffers Odongo, lost 2-1 to Naivas FC at the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT), Ngong’.
Eugene Omondi and Emmanuel Lunalo scored for Naivas. Alfred Ratolo netted Soy United’s consolation while Naivas goalkeeper Eliud Emase saved Ambrose Sifuna’s second-half penalty.
Soy United host Kibera Black Stars on Sunday at the Eldoret Showground.
Assistant coach Samuel Otieno said the team had already turned its attention to the next challenge.
“We have now shifted our focus to the Kibera Black Stars game. We need to bounce back to winning ways,” said Otieno.
He noted that despite the loss, the team played well but failed to convert their chances, including a crucial penalty.
“Football is a game of chances. If you don’t convert your chances, you get punished,” he added.
Naivas coach, Elvis Ayany, praised Soy United’s performance.
“They played a good game. It’s always difficult playing against newly promoted teams. Kabati Youth also gave us a hard time when we faced them,” said Ayany.
Elsewhere, struggling Luanda Villa upset former Premier League side Talanta FC 1-0 to record their second win of the season.
Mully Children’s Family (MCF) also claimed their second victory of the campaign after a hard-fought and deserved 1-0 win over visiting Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) at the MCF Complex in Ndalani, Machakos County.
Kelvin Senya, alias Roro, scored the lone goal for Vincent Nyaberi’s charges.
Nyaberi said the win was a morale booster for his team as they target SportPesa League qualification.
“It was an important win for us. We have not had a good start, but we are picking up momentum,” said Nyaberi, who is keen to maintain the winning form when they play newly promoted Kabati Youth on Sunday.
