Former Machachari actress Wanjiku Mburu, fondly remembered for her role as Mama Baha, is mourning the loss of her real-life sister, Gracie Wangui, who was also part of the beloved TV show.

Gracie, known on screen as Mama Bob, tragically passed away in South Africa following a road accident on October 28, 2025.

Heartbreaking Tribute on Social Media

Wanjiku broke the heartbreaking news through an emotional post on social media, where she shared a series of touching photos capturing their bond — from behind-the-scenes moments on Machachari to childhood memories. In her caption, she wrote, “And then? My dear sister, rest easy.”

Many fans were surprised to learn that Mama Baha and Mama Bob were real-life sisters, as this had not been widely known during the show’s run.

Their revelation sparked an outpouring of condolences and messages of support from fans and former castmates alike.

Laying Flowers at Her Sister’s Last Resting Place

In a more recent post, Wanjiku shared a moving video of herself laying flowers by the roadside in Moy River, Durban, where her sister reportedly spent her final moments.

Dressed simply in denim shorts, a white sweater, and crocs, she braved the misty weather to honour her sister’s memory.

“South Africa, Durban, to be specific Moy River — and this is where my sister had her last moments. I am just here to lay this flower in remembrance of her. In loving memory of Grace Wangui Mburu,” she said tearfully.

She concluded her tribute with the heartfelt words, “28.10.2025. Gracie, you are dated forever.”

Tributes Pour In from Fans and Castmates

Tributes have since poured in across social media, with fans and fellow actors remembering Mama Bob for her warmth and the motherly role she played on screen.

Her former co-star Malik Lemmy, who played Govi, commented, “Oh God. This really shocked me. I am so sorry. May Gracie, Mama Bob, rest in eternal peace.”

Others shared similar sentiments, with one user writing, “Rest in peace, Mama Bob. Thanks for making my childhood memories sweet,” while another added, “Woi, Mama Bob, rest easy. Heaven has gained another angel.”

Remembering a Beloved TV Mum

Wanjiku’s tribute has struck a deep emotional chord with Machachari fans, many of whom grew up watching the two sisters bring to life the beloved mothers of Baha, Govi, and their friends.

The entertainment industry has joined her in mourning, celebrating Gracie’s impact on Kenyan television and the legacy she leaves behind.
