Members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth are now urging the party’s delegates to give young people a chance to lead. ODM youth have announced their support for Babu Owino as the next party leader. This comes days after the former prime minister, who also served as the ODM party leader, died while he was undergoing treatment at the Devamatha Hospital in India. Do ODM youth want Raila to lead ODM? Speaking on Friday, October 24, the youth rallied their support behind Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, terming him the best candidate to take over the leadership of the party.
. They argued that the move would help the party continue the developmental policies initiated by the late political veteran. “As youths countrywide, anywhere or within the nation, we have only one leader who has been standing with us, who is His Excellency the Member of Parliament, who is the honourable Babu Owino,” one member said. “As the youth and those who are demanding a transformative leadership. Those who are demanding transformative leadership and good governance. Babu Owino is the right leader to take the course,” another member said. They also paid emotional tributes to the country’s longest-serving opposition leader, calling him a Pan-Africanist and a champion of democracy. “When you talk of a Pan-Africanist, when we talk of a democracy, when you talk of devolution, you cannot mention a name without Raila,” they said. The youth also took the opportunity to offer condolences to the family and friends of the late prime minister. “To Raila’s family, we really want to condole with you in this painful time. We want to remind you that God is in control,” they added.
