Oga Obinna’s Clean Shave: The Powerful Dual Tribute to Raila & Cancer Champions

Comedian and content creator Oga Obinna has captured attention after revealing a dramatic new look: a clean-shaven head.

The popular personality stated he had not been bald since lower primary school. Obinna was quick to explain that this significant physical transformation was not merely a stylistic choice. Instead, it serves as a powerful tribute dedicated to two distinct causes.

Mourning and Respect for ‘Baba’

The primary reason Obinna secured the clean shave was to mourn Raila Odinga, affectionately referred to by many as ‘Baba’.

He explained that shaving one’s head traditionally symbolises grieving in his culture. He acknowledged that very few people adhere to this custom nowadays.

However, Obinna chose to shave his head for ‘Baba’ specifically as a symbol of mourning. He stressed that the gesture arose from the deep respect and admiration he holds for the man.

“I don’t remember the last time I shaved my head. Why? Where? So, in the Luo culture normally to mourn and to symbolize grieving. We used to shave our heads,” Obinna said.

“Nowadays, very few people do it and that’s okay. But now, for myself, for Baba, I choose to shave my head as a symbol of of mourning,” he added.

Despite the sad circumstances surrounding the loss, Obinna reframed the act. He described his decision as a “celebration of life for a good man to heaven”.

He also highlighted the importance of being proud of the choices one makes. “You have to be proud of yourself. Be proud of your decisions,” he stated.

A Message for Cancer Patients

Obinna confirmed that his decision to shave his head also serves a second, broader purpose. The gesture is also a dedication to everyone struggling with cancer.

The comedian extended his heartfelt sympathy to all cancer patients, whom he calls “cancer champions”. He stated that his heart goes out to them.

This dual dedication means the shaved head simultaneously honours the departed ‘Baba’ and supports those fighting serious illness.

“It also goes out to everybody out there who’s struggling with cancer. For all the cancer patients out there, my heart goes out to you as well.”

Obinna’s decision is firm. He clearly views the clean shave as a meaningful expression of support and remembrance. The last time he recalled having a bald head was during his time in lower primary school.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga died on October 15 and was interred on October 19 at his father’s home in Bondo, Siaya county.
