Musician Shalkido Ga Cucu will be laid to rest on October 16, his family has confirmed.
The burial will take place just days after the Gengetone artist’s untimely death following a tragic road accident. Speaking to the media, a family representative shared details of the arrangements, noting that his body would be moved from the Kenyatta University Funeral Home ahead of the ceremony.
“His burial will be on October 16 next week; that is when we will lay him to rest. The body will be moved from KU Funeral Home—not the one on Thika Road, the other one,” the family member said.
They also addressed growing online speculation that Shalkido’s death was not accidental, calling such claims false and disrespectful.
“As a family, we believe it was God’s plan. There’s no sacrifice or foul play involved. These rumours must stop. We trust in God’s will and are praying for a peaceful send-off for our son, Shalkido,” they added.
The Tragic Accident
Shalkido, whose real name was Kevin Mburu Kinyanjui, died on October 7, 2025, two days after being involved in a serious motorcycle accident along Thika Road — between Githurai and Carwash, just before Roysambu.

According to eyewitnesses, the musician had been riding towards Nairobi after a late-night performance in Thika when the crash occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 5th.
First responders found him critically injured by the roadside and rushed him to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).
Despite the efforts of medical staff, comedian Oga Obinna later revealed that doctors had declared the singer brain-dead due to extensive internal bleeding in multiple areas of the brain. Shalkido passed away while receiving treatment.
A Father’s Pain
A few days ago in an emotional interview with YouTuber Trudy Kitui, Shalkido’s father, Steve Mungai, spoke about their final conversation before the tragedy.
“Ilikuwa Thursday wiki iliyopita aliniambia atakuja home on Sunday,” he recalled sadly, explaining that his son had promised to visit home that weekend. Instead, the family received the devastating news of his accident on Sunday morning.
Mungai said a cousin called around 7 a.m. to inform him of the crash. By the time he arrived at the hospital, his son had already been admitted to the ICU with life-threatening injuries.
Doctors confirmed that Shalkido had suffered severe brain trauma and was later pronounced brain dead — a diagnosis indicating the irreversible loss of all brain function.
