The Last Promise

Baba Shalkido recalled their last conversation with sorrow. The discussion took place on Thursday before the accident. Shalkido shared a simple, promising plan.

“Ilikuwa Thursday wiki iliyopita aliniambia atakuja home on Sunday,” the father recalled.

Shalkido was expected home that Sunday. Instead, the family received devastating news. The father was alerted to the accident by a cousin. The call came around seven o’clock that morning.

Severity of the Injuries

Shalkido was rushed to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital (KUTRRH). He was immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Doctors confirmed severe internal brain injuries. Hours before his death, Shalkido was pronounced brain dead. Brain death is the irreversible loss of all brain function.

Raised by ‘Shosho’

Shalkido’s father shed light on his son’s early life. He explained why Shalkido was raised by his grandmother, known as ‘Shosho’.

Shalkido’s mother left when the baby was just two months old. The father took the two-month-old infant to his mother.

“Shalkido was born in 2001, and the mother left when he was 2 months old. I took the baby to my mother to help me take care of him as I went about hustling.”

Awaiting Closure

The family is currently at Kenyatta Memorial Funeral Home. They are waiting for the post-mortem results. Funeral preparations cannot move forward until this procedure is complete.
