Bahati’s Clarification

In response to the growing backlash, Bahati took to his social media platforms to explain himself through a heartfelt video.

In the clip, the singer apologised to fans who felt offended by his post and clarified that the conversation in question was not between him and Shalkido directly, but rather between Shalkido and his management team.

”I was just sharing a screenshot of my manager Silvester and Shalkido had . It was a simple screenshot to show their was something cooking and it was coming .Mimi mwenyewe si inbox yangu, ni ya my manager. Poleni guys.”

Bahati said he understood why people were upset but emphasised that his intentions were pure. He explained that the screenshot was meant to show that he had indeed been in communication with Shalkido’s team about a future project not to gain attention.

Apology to Fans

During the  video, Bahati admitted that he was deeply hurt by the accusations and the timing of the backlash.

He expressed regret for any pain his post may have caused, saying that his goal was to honour Shalkido’s memory, not to attract negative attention.

”Poleni wakenya . Naomba msamaha , dear fans.”

He further urged fans to remember Shalkido for his talent and contribution to Kenyan music rather than focusing on controversy.

Bahati also revealed that he was planning to support Shalkido’s family and hoped that the music community would unite to celebrate the young artist’s legacy.

The Controversial Screenshot

The controversy began shortly after Bahati shared the screenshot on his social media accounts as part of his tribute to Shalkido, who tragically passed away following a hit-and-run accident along Thika Road.

While Bahati’s post appeared to be a gesture of remembrance, a section of fans interpreted it differently. Many claimed the singer was trying to appear caring after neglecting the artist’s outreach when he was alive.

Critics flooded the comment section, accusing Bahati of chasing clout and using Shalkido’s death for publicity. Some fans also questioned why the conversation in the screenshot seemed one-sided, implying that Shalkido’s messages were not adequately responded to.

Industry Reactions

The apology video has since calmed some of the backlash, with several fans and fellow musicians commending Bahati for taking accountability.

However, others maintained that public figures should be more mindful about what they post during sensitive moments like bereavement.

Bahati concluded his statement by saying he will continue honouring Shalkido’s memory through music, adding, ”Let’s focus on giving Shalkido a good send off.”
