Popular media personality Oga Obinna has issued a detailed update on Mugithi singer Shalkido Ga Cucu following the serious injuries he sustained in a hit-and-run accident on Sunday, 5 September.
Hospitalised at Kenyatta University Teaching & Referral Hospital
Shortly after the accident, Obinna and Shalkido’s father went public with the news, confirming that Shalkido was admitted to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.
Initially, it was difficult to get a clear medical assessment from hospital staff. Eventually, the treating physician provided clarity: Shalkido has a broken left leg and internal bleeding in multiple parts of the brain, leading to dangerous swelling. Obinna explained:
“He has internal bleeding in the brain … it is in a lot of places, and so it is also swollen, meaning that it is inoperable, and they cannot do anything about it. About the leg, there is a way they handled it, but they will still treat him for it. The main concern is the brain … the neurosurgeon saw him, and there is nothing they can do for now. They said it is very severe.”
Attempts to move him to a different facility faltered due to lack of personnel to process the needed documents.
Obinna pledged to keep fans updated and indicated that they may appeal for public support if the hospital bills become unmanageable.
Background & Recent Struggles
This update comes after Shalkido had already re-entered public view following a period of hardship. The former Sailors member disclosed that he had been living in difficult conditions — renting a single room with just a mattress — and struggling to provide for his family.
Media personality Oga Obinna has given a critical update on Mugithi singer Shalkido Ga Cucu, confirming severe, inoperable brain injuries and a broken leg after a hit-and-run accident, derailing the singer’s career comeback.
In response, comedian Eric Omondi gifted him a motorcycle, while Obinna rented and furnished a bedsitter and helped secure a brand ambassador deal to help him revive his career.
Prior Hospitalisation and Warnings
This is not the first time Shalkido’s health had been in the spotlight. On 28 September, he shared a video of himself in a hospital bed, claiming he had fallen ill while on tour in Lamu.
On the morning of 5 October, Obinna went public with urgent news that the singer was in critical condition after an accident. He wrote: “Woii Shalkido yawa. Critical in hospital … keep him in your prayers.”

Obinna did not specify whether the accident involved Shalkido’s recently gifted motorcycle. Interestingly, on the night before the incident, the two had appeared together at a club in Thika.
