Pastor T. Mwangi Blasts “Medical Marijuana” Claims in Viral Sermon

Pastor T. Mwangi has ignited a new debate after a powerful sermon on marijuana use.

Speaking to his congregation, the pastor warned against what he called a “slow destruction of the mind and spirit,” telling young people not to glorify weed as a harmless herb.

He started by acknowledging the global conversation. Some people say marijuana can treat cancer, others call it medicinal, and many see it as just a natural plant.

However, Pastor Mwangi pointed out that unlike local vegetables such as managukunde, or terere, weed is illegal in many countries. This, he argued, is a clear sign that its effects have been studied and found to be harmful.

The Spiritual and Medical View

From a spiritual standpoint, Pastor Mwangi said that God designed humans to breathe air and eat nourishing food, not to inhale smoke.

“If God intended us to smoke, He would have given us a system for it. Instead, He gave us clean air for our lungs.”

While he admitted that marijuana has controlled medical uses, he compared it to strong drugs like morphine or even cocaine.

These substances can be helpful in a hospital but only under strict supervision. Recreational use, he warned, is a completely different matter.

The Brain and Addiction

Pastor Mwangi compared the effects of weed to sniffing glue, stating that both kill brain cells that can never grow back.

He said this is why frequent users often lose their mental sharpness, struggle with memory, and appear slow in their thoughts and actions.

He also highlighted the addictive nature of the drug. He explained that it releases dopamine in the brain, which leads to cravings and dependency.

Frequent marijuana use can alter the brain’s function.

Users can swing between moments of excitement and deep depression.

This instability can lead to hopelessness, reckless behaviour, and long-term mental health problems.

Pastor Mwangi then compared this to other habits, like drinking tea or coffee. He noted that while missing tea might cause a headache, a weed addiction can change a person’s thought patterns and push them toward destructive behaviour.

“Addiction in any form is not good,” he concluded, “but some are far more damaging than others.”

What People Are Saying

The sermon quickly went viral online, and reactions came pouring in.

@_don___sparta commented, “Kila mtu si afanye mambo yake akingoja siku ya kuenda.” (Everyone should just do their own thing while waiting for the day to go.)

@chagira quipped, “Mi mpaka siku ntaona imeharibikia Uncle Snoop ndio ntaacha 😂.” (I’ll only quit the day I see it mess up Uncle Snoop.)

@_wanjikuwanjiku posed a sharp question: “Kwani huwa tunameza moshi pasi?” (Are we supposed to swallow smoke, not breathe it in?)
