Raila calls for crucial ODM PG meeting

ODM leader Raila Odinga has convened the party’s Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting this morning to, among other things, discuss next month’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

The ODM members of both the National Assembly and Senate have been invited to a morning meeting set to begin at 8.30 am at Argyle Grand Hotel, along Mombasa Road.

The legislators were invited through National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed via a memo dated 18th September.

Junet said the meeting has been called ahead of Parliament resuming its sittings tomorrow as the long recess comes to an end.

Other than the anniversary events, ODM legislators are going to discuss the agenda for parliament’s resumption at a time when the party has witnessed divisions on its support for the broad-based government.

“As you are aware, our party—the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)—willbe celebrating its 20th Anniversary from the 9th to the 12th of October 2025. In preparation for this important milestone, you are hereby invited to attend an ODM parliamentary (PG) meeting,” Junet’s memo reads.

He added; “Our party leader, the Right Honourable Raila Odinga will be in attendance and the agenda will include preparations for the 20th anniversary, parliamentary business and other matters of importance to the party.”

Last Saturday, ODM held a series of activities in Wajir county as part of the celebrations, while this coming Friday, Raila is leading his party troops to Kisii for another pre-anniversary event.

The Kisii event will see party delegates and supporters from the former Nyanza and Western provinces congregate at Gusii Stadium for cultural and political rallies.

Raila is also struggling to maintain unity within his ranks, especially with a rebellion of young legislators led by party secretary general and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who is leading the anti-broad-based battalion.

Sifuna and MPs Anthony Kibagendi, Babu Owino, Caleb Amisi, Obadia Barongo, Clive Gisairo among others, are coalescing around the Kenya Moja group.

Another group led by Junet, Peter Kaluma, George Aladwa, and Sam Atandi among others have been vocal in their support for the broad-based arrangement and Ruto’s two-terms bid.

The divisions are likely to spill over to parliament, where ODM’s position on legislative and policy matters is witnessing alignment along the two camps.
