“My Wife Has My M-Pesa and Bank PIN”: Ng’ang’a Sparks Online Frenzy with Bold Claim

Apostle James Ng’ang’a of the Neno Evangelism Centre has once again captured attention after a video of him and his wife, Murugi Maina, went viral online.

The controversial preacher, known for his unconventional approach to ministry, has built a loyal following over the years.

His latest light-hearted appearance on social media added to his reputation and gave Kenyans plenty to talk about.

A Fun Moment in the US

The video, shared by Murugi on TikTok, showed the couple during a trip to the United States, where they were engaged in ministerial work while also making time for sightseeing.

In the clip, the pair explored a countryside property, smiling as they admired the lush surroundings. At one point, Pastor Ng’ang’a amused his wife by switching to an American accent after she teased that she would not mind staying behind.

“So you like it here? You want me to leave you here—I go with what?” he joked.

Mixed Social Media Reactions

The exchange drew widespread reactions online. Some netizens admired the couple’s humour and openness, while others were tickled by the mention of his M-Pesa PIN.

One user commented, “Kumbe yeye yuko romantic… ni sisi anashoutinga.” Another added, “Huezi sema huyu Man of God ako over 70’s, so romantic hadi anapeana PIN.”

Others expressed admiration for their bond, while some joked about Ng’ang’a’s dramatic public persona compared to his tender side at home.

A Playful Clash in Church

This was not the first time the couple had entertained Kenyans with their candid interactions. In a recent church service, Ng’ang’a announced to his congregation that they would soon be travelling abroad.

“We had said we are going to Seattle,” he said. Murugi confirmed, “Yes, we are going.”

With a grin, Ng’ang’a suggested she should remain behind to look after their children. Without hesitation, Murugi asked why he was travelling if he also had children to care for—a retort that left the congregation in stitches.

Standing Her Ground

Murugi has also shown she is unafraid to stand her ground. In another church service, Ng’ang’a urged her to call out congregants for missing overnight prayers.

“Call them stupid. How can they leave you here and go to sleep?” he told her.

Murugi, dressed elegantly in red, refused to echo his harsh words. Instead, she encouraged members to value prayer while recognising family responsibilities.

“I will not call you stupid, as he said, because I understand you,” she told the crowd.

Her response sparked a playful back-and-forth, with Ng’ang’a accusing her of defending the congregation. The exchange, complete with an eye-roll from Murugi, left the audience in laughter.

Candid About Marriage Struggles

Beyond the humour, the couple has also been honest about their turbulent marriage. Ng’ang’a once revealed that their relationship had been rocky enough to involve the police after Murugi walked out over suspicious text messages.

Murugi herself admitted she had not been fully prepared for the scrutiny that comes with being a pastor’s wife. “What I thought marriage was turned out to be very different,” she shared, revealing she once packed her bags and left.

The couple eventually decided to “start afresh,” cutting off outside interference and rebuilding trust. Murugi confessed that single friends nearly convinced her to leave permanently, but she chose to stay.

“God gives us what we can handle. I’m graced for this position,” she said.
