A Midnight Scare: Maureen Waititu’s Emotional Parenting Story

Kenyan digital creator Maureen Waititu on Monday gave her followers an honest glimpse into the chaotic but loving world of raising her two sons, Kai and Lexi.

What began as a terrifying midnight scare quickly turned into a humorous and relatable lesson in parenting, culminating in a written apology from her children.

Dramatic Night

The dramatic events of the night unfolded when Maureen was awakened by her son Kai. “Life with boys next,” she began, describing how Kai alerted her about his brother’s ordeal.

I was woken up by Kai at midnight, you guys- he was screaming while shaking that his brother was stuck in the bathroom,” she recalled.

Maureen, half-asleep, rushed to their aid, believing she was in a dream. She soon discovered that Lexi was indeed trapped inside, with a broken door handle.

“Half asleep and equally shocked, I darted straight into their room (I thought I was actually dreaming) and indeed this only confirmed that Lexi was stuck in the bathroom and the handle was broken. He was equally screaming on top of his lungs, making me think of the worst,” she narrated.

The Apology Letters

Following the scare, Maureen decided it was time for a firm conversation about their behaviour. She read them their charges and privileges they were on the verge of losing.

“In the morning, I read them their charges and their rights as well as the privileges that I was going to remove.”

This stern talk led to a surprising and heartwarming outcome: apology letters.

“These two dudes went ahead and wrote me these apology letters. I kept a brave face while correcting their grammar but deep down I was like this 😭😂 Who am I raising?” she exclaimed.

The boys, who had broken the door, penned their regrets. Kai’s letter apologised for “banging” and for “not listening” to his mother.

“Dear mommy I am sorry for bangng and im sorry for playing at bad time dhd not lisening and im sorry for desobaying you and im sorry for breakng the door from Kali ❤️”.

Meanwhile, Lexi’s letter expressed his sorrow for “playing at bed time” and “not obeying”.

“Dear Mummy I’M sorry for playing at bed time and not obaying you and what you tell me and am sorry for breaking the door please sorry for… from Lexi ❤️”.

Maureen, a former law student, even found a moment to correct their grammar.

A Parent’s Trust in God

The incident was more than just a funny story for Maureen; it was a reflection on the curveballs of parenthood.

She shared the letters on her Instagram, noting that the challenges of raising her kids are something she’ll “never understand”. She also highlighted a key message about her journey as a parent.

“The way God helps me to raise my kids is just an assurance that I should always trust Him more and seek wisdom relentlessly from Him in raising them.”
