Makueni boy speaks after being allegedly assaulted The young boy painfully narrated the heartbreaking ordeal that left him unable to write well and in agony. “We were writing some football stuff, and one boy had the material in his book. When he dropped it, I stooped, collected it, and gave it back to him. When the teacher saw that, he told me to see him after the lesson,” the 11-year-old boy recalled.
When he went to see the teacher, the boy was beaten up and told to go and fetch water immediately. He went to the kitchen, where he was expected to fetch water from a cook who did not help him immediately. Catherine Mwikali speaks after son is allegedly assaulted “The cook told me to stand aside until I finished crying, then he would show me the next task. I told him my hand was swollen. Instead, he poured hot water on it,” the boy added. In this devastating incident, the family sought answers and accountability from the educational institution, Kwamingio School. However, their efforts bore no fruit as the school refused to cooperate with them in finding a solution. “The school administration asked me not to report the incident as I would tarnish its name. The teacher who beat my son did not seem remorseful,” Catherine Mwikali, the boy’s mum, said.
Makueni resident weighs in on school punishment A resident, Cosmas Mbolu, weighed in on the matter, finding the teacher at fault for the extremity of his abuse. He urged teachers to build better relationships with their students, to understand them fully, and resolve issues amicably. “If a learner commits a serious offence, there are legal procedures, and the relevant authorities such as the police can be involved, but not teachers taking matters into their own hands. That is not the way,” Mbolu said. Netizens react to boy’s severe punishment The issue left social media users deeply bothered, prompting them to head to the comment section to share their heartbreaking reactions: lucymwai7645: “Oh my God, sasa hii ni maneno gani jameni kwa nchi yetu Kenya.
