Wrestling legend John Cena has been using his social media to provide a unique update on his farewell tour.
The wrestler-turned-actor, known for his cryptic Instagram posts, has adopted a new method to count down his remaining WWE appearances: using the jersey numbers of famous athletes.

The move has kept fans engaged and guessing, as each new post signals another step closer to his retirement from the ring.
The Meaning Behind the Numbers
For years, John Cena’s Instagram account has been a source of mystery. He posts images without any captions or context, allowing fans to interpret their meaning.

This time, however, the meaning has become clearer as a pattern has emerged.
Cena’s posts feature athletes with specific jersey numbers, which correspond to the number of remaining dates on his farewell tour.
For example, a post featuring footballer Lionel Messi in his number 10 jersey was seen as a sign that Cena had ten appearances left.

Another post of Cristiano Ronaldo in his number 7 jersey was also interpreted as a signal that he had seven appearances remaining.
The Farewell Tour and Retirement
John Cena officially announced his retirement from in-ring competition in 2025 at Money in the Bank.
The decision marks the end of a legendary career that saw him become a 17-time world champion.

According to reports, his final match is set to take place on Saturday, December 13, in Washington D.C.. This is a change from the initially reported location in Boston.
The announcement of his final dates has created a surge in fan interest. For his final SmackDown appearance in Chicago, almost all 16,046 available tickets were sold, and the event was projected to set a new record for gate revenue for a SmackDown show.
Cena’s Dedication to His Fans
While Cena’s recent posts are a way of communicating, they also reflect his long-standing relationship with the WWE audience.

A few months ago, Cena had a short-lived heel run, where he portrayed a villainous character. He explained that he listened to the reaction of the fans and decided to return to his familiar babyface role.
“Sometimes, you can make bold and brave new moves, but going against this body of energy is a losing battle. So sometimes, you just gotta listen and pivot, change course,” he said.
This shows how Cena continues to involve his fans in his career journey, making his retirement tour a shared experience between the star and the audience that made him a household name
