Eric Omondi: Why My Breakup Story Differs from Mulamwah’s

Comedian-cum-activist Eric Omondi recently offered a rare glimpse into his private life, discussing his approach to relationships and breakups during an interview on the G2G Podcast with South African host Galston Anthony.

Omondi, known for his pivot from comedy to activism, explained why his handling of personal matters, particularly his separation from partner Lynne Njhia, differed significantly from that of fellow comedian Mulamwah.

A Private Stance on Public Splits

Eric Omondi, who first rose to prominence on the Churchill Show, still identifies as a comedian despite his deep involvement in activism.

During the interview, he addressed his past separation from Lynne, clarifying that while they are now “good” and have “always been friends,” their split was not widely detailed by him.

“We are good now. We always been friends even before we had the baby,” Omondi stated. He noted that Lynne was the one who initially announced their separation publicly.

Contrasting Comedian Approaches

Omondi drew a direct comparison to his friend, comedian Mulamwah, who handled his own breakup very differently.

“Mulamwah, he was all out there talking about it, giving details. This is what happened. This is wrong. And you see me, I wanted to handle it a bit different,” Omondi explained.

His choice for privacy stemmed from a desire to protect his family.

“Until today just to protect her and protect the little girl,” he emphasised.

The Toll of a Demanding Life

When pressed for specifics on why he and Lynne separated, Omondi attributed it to the demanding nature of his multifaceted career.

“From morning to evening there’s activism there’s comedy. There’s philanthropy sometimes it becomes too much for her,” he revealed.

He acknowledged that relationships, especially for ladies, require attention, communication, and presence, which he sometimes struggled to provide amidst his busy schedule.

Protecting the Next Generation

Omondi’s commitment to family extends beyond Lynne and their daughter. He also discussed his son with Jacque Maribe, confirming that they are on very good terms and frequently communicate about their child.

He expressed relief when Jacque Maribe was acquitted of murder charges, highlighting the importance of a mother’s presence for their son.

Omondi’s personal experiences underscore his broader mission: to create a better Kenya so that future generations, including his own children, will not have to endure similar struggles
