Ngugi died in his sleep on Thursday morning, September 4, just days after admission at The Karen Hospital for am undisclosed illness. He died aged 105. The obit news was officially relayed to fellow MPs by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula. “Members, It is with profound sadness that we notify you of the passing of the father of The Hon. Kimani Ichungwa, EGH, MP, Leader of the Majority Party. His father, Mr. Isaac Ichungwa Ngugi, aged 105, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Kikuyu home early this morning. Following a week-long hospitalisation at Karen Hospital, he was discharged last week. The family has initiated funeral arrangements. Hon. Members may pay their condolences to the family starting Tuesday, 9th September 2025. Other details, including Requiem Mass, and interment date for the late Mr. Isaac Ichungwa Ngugi will follow shortly. May the bereaved family find God’s solace during this difficult time,” the speaker’s notification read.
Some of Ichungw’ah’s colleagues in the National Assembly and members of the Kenya Kwanza administration condoled with him following the loss. Kapseret’s Oscar Sudi said: “My heartfelt condolences to the family of Hon. Kimani Ichung’wa, Leader of Majority, on the passing of your beloved father, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah Ngugi, who lived a long and fulfilling life of 105 years. May God grant you peace, comfort, and strength during this difficult time. May his legacy live on through the memories and values he instilled in you.” Kimilili’s Didmus Barasa: “Extending my deepest condolences to Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly, following the loss of his beloved father, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah Ngugi.. My prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time of grief.” Kakamega’s Elsie Muhanda: “My thoughts and prayers go out to you, Hon.
