National government steps in to complete stalled Uasin Gishu projects worth Sh5 billion

Stalled projects in Uasin Gishu are set for completion after the national government conducted an assessment, paving the way for their revival at a cost of over Sh5 billion.

Most of the initiatives, concentrated in the health sector, had ground to a halt due to funding shortfalls.

Governor Jonathan Bii earlier appealed to President William Ruto to intervene and help complete projects started under the former county boss, now Senator, Jackson Mandago.

“We are working with the national government to ensure the projects are completed as directed by President Ruto,” Bii said.

A multi-agency team visited the sites to evaluate the condition of stalled works and determine the financial support required.

Major projects include Ziwa Level 5 Hospital, Kesses Level 4 Hospital, Turbo Level 4 Hospital, MoiSoy Maize Milling Plant, and Chagaiya High Altitude Training Camp.

During a tour of the region, President Ruto acknowledged the county’s funding challenges and instructed relevant ministries to partner with the county government to guarantee completion.

Bii confirmed that the county departments of Sports and Public Works have submitted detailed reports to Nairobi, outlining project progress, structural status, and expected costs.

The governor pledged to ensure the completion of all initiatives, including those begun under his predecessor.

Other stalled projects earmarked for completion include the 64 Stadium, Ngenyilel Vocational Training Centre, and the Jackson Mandago Special Needs Assessment Centre.

Bii highlighted that his administration has rolled out new initiatives over the past two years across the health sector, agriculture, water, and education, demonstrating the county’s commitment to improving residents’ welfare.
