President Ruto Gifts Harambee Stars 2-Bedroom Houses at Ksh 1 Million

President William Ruto has laid out an ambitious plan to provide affordable housing to the Harambee Stars players, offering each member of the national football team a two-bedroom house.

The announcement came as the President hosted the team for lunch at the State House on Thursday, a gesture of recognition for their efforts, even in the wake of their recent match against Madagascar.

A Generous Offer for National Heroes

During the gathering, President Ruto confirmed that all team members had already registered with the Boma Yangu platform.

This registration enables players to select a two-bedroom house in any town of their choice nationwide. Each 2 Bedroom house in the program is valued at Ksh 2 million.

The government has pledged to contribute one million shillings towards the cost of each house.

“I know all the team has registered already with Boma Yangu. So go ahead and choose a two-bedroom house in any town of your choosing for every team member here,” President Ruto said.

Flexible Payment Options

Players will be required to cover the remaining one million shillings. To ease this financial commitment, the President announced that the government would facilitate a mortgage option.

This mortgage can be repaid over a generous period of 20 years, with players making a little payment every month.

“We are going to pay you a million shillings. You will pay the other 1 million, or we will give you a mortgage that you can pay for 20 years, paying a little every month. I think that is what I can do for you now – recognizing the kind of contribution that you made.”

This long-term payment plan aims to make home ownership accessible and sustainable for the athletes.

Boma Yangu: The Vehicle for Home Ownership

The Boma Yangu initiative is a cornerstone of the government’s affordable housing agenda. It serves as a national platform for Kenyans to register their interest in affordable housing units, promoting home ownership and contributing to the nation’s economic growth.

The fact that the Harambee Stars players have already registered highlights their readiness to embrace this opportunity.

Recognition Beyond the Pitch

President Ruto’s offer comes despite the Harambee Stars’ recent performance in the CHAN qualifiers, which saw them suffer a loss to Madagascar.

The African Nations Championship (CHAN) is a significant continental tournament exclusively for players who feature in their respective national championships, making the qualifiers an important stage for national pride.
