Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, has publicly expressed his excitement after successfully reconciling a young couple, Collins and Joy, who were on the verge of separation just five days into their relationship.
The disagreement stemmed from a crucial lack of intimacy between them, a situation Mosiria enthusiastically stepped in to resolve.
Reconciliation and Revelation
Mosiria shared his involvement, stating, “Kuna feedback nataka kuwapatia tangu nipatanishe Collins na Joy”.

He explained that Collins, who lives with a disability, and Joy had been together for five days, simply looking at each other without progressing their relationship.
This led to a significant disagreement that Mosiria intervened to fix.
“Today, I resolved a misunderstanding between Joy and Collins, and they have gone home as a happy couple. After living together for five days, they almost separated over a small issue, which I have just helped them work out. Hii maneno ya wazee almost cost them their relationship. Mwanaume ni kujiongea, and this reconciliation must work,” Mosiria said while handing instruments of power (condoms) to Collins.
He noted that Collins was timid, advising him, “mwanaume sasa take charge wewe ndio you older than your girlfriend take charge hakuna haja unalala kwa nyumba kitada moja hata humju maneno ya mwanaume. So be a man.”
The Chief Officer recounted receiving a call from Joy, distressed after Collins was invited to town by someone else. Mosiria defended Joy against accusations of mismanaging funds collected for the couple, confirming that financial statements showed everything was in order.
He praised Joy for choosing to support Collins, acknowledging that many disabled individuals in the city lack such support. Collins, who had posted emotional messages online, has since deleted them and apologised.
Empowering Intimacy: The ‘Instruments of Power’
To help the couple overcome their shyness and initiate intimacy, Mosiria took direct action. He arranged for Collins and Joy to undergo medical tests, including HIV screening, to ensure they were aware of their health status.

Crucially, he then purchased condoms for Collins, referring to them as “instruments of power”.
“Niwapeleka hapa wapimwe kwanza ukimwi wajuane kwamba hali yao iko sawa na niwanulie kondomu waende waanze maisha”, Mosiria stated.
In a further step to facilitate their new beginning, Mosiria paid for a hotel room for the couple to spend the night together, aiming to help them overcome their apprehension and become more comfortable with each other.
He stressed the importance of this step for their relationship, saying, “Hiyo najua itafungua ile uoga wako nayo itapeana confidence watazoeana”.
Financial Hurdles and Public Appeal
Mosiria also highlighted the financial challenges faced by the couple, noting that under pressure, Joy had purchased an expensive new phone using money that had been saved for their next month’s rent. This decision left them without funds for rent and food.

He urged the public to provide unconditional support to the couple, stating, “kama mnataka kuwasupport msipeane conditions“. He provided a contact number for those willing to offer assistance.
The reconciliation concluded with Mosiria affirming that the couple would now “go and live as a family”. He encouraged Collins, despite his disability, to take on his responsibilities, reminding him, “miguu tatu kama iko sawa enda ufanye kazi endeni nyumbani”.
