Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has stirred debate once again — this time for linking President William Ruto’s rise to power to divine intervention.
A Bold Statement in Church
Karen Nyamu made the remarks during a church service at ACK St. Martin’s in Kariobangi, where she joined President Ruto and other political leaders.
Speaking to the congregation, Nyamu declared that Ruto’s presidency was not just political, but spiritual.
“If you want to know God called our president, just watch his journey since he joined politics,” she said.
“Against all odds, he is the president today. And now you tell me there is someone out there thinking they can fight him? A man who has fought two sitting presidents?”
Nyamu went on to urge churches to continue praying for the president.
“We pray for you. And for the church, when you stop taking up that role, who will pray for him? We know we are on the right side and we will speak boldly,” she added.
Online Reactions: Mixed and Heated
Her comments quickly went viral, triggering mixed reactions on social media.
Some Kenyans applauded her loyalty, saying she was simply standing by the leader she believes in.
But many others were less impressed, accusing her of being out of touch with the struggles ordinary Kenyans are facing.
“This is the kind of tone-deaf politics that is fueling frustration,” one user wrote.
“Instead of addressing the cost of living, they’re preaching from pulpits,” another added.
Rising Discontent
President Ruto has seen his popularity dip in recent months.
Nationwide protests have become more frequent, driven by:
High cost of living
Unemployment
Controversial cabinet reshuffles
Public dissatisfaction with tax hikes
Some Kenyans have even called for the president to step down — a stark contrast from the optimism surrounding his election in 2022.
Nyamu: Always in the Spotlight
Karen Nyamu, known for her outspoken nature, has never shied away from making headlines.
From her personal life to her political alliances, she often finds herself at the centre of public conversation.
Whether this latest comment boosts her profile or damages her credibility remains to be seen — but one thing is certain: she’s not afraid to speak her mind.
