Kenyans have reacted to a moment from murder suspect Klinzy Barasa Masinde’s lawyer that has left many stunned. The young police officer is facing murder charges after the point-blank shooting of mask vendor Boniface Kariuki, who passed after several days in the hospital. What did Klinzy Barasa’s lawyer say? During a presser on Thursday, July 10, outside the courtroom, Barasa’s lawyer said a word that has become a topic for many on social media. While explaining how his client was charged with murder, he noted that Director of Public Prosecutions, Renson Ingonga, ‘choosed’ a murder charge.
At first glance, one would think what he said was okay, but he then repeated the word, giving away his broken English. “Position of DPP on how they ‘choosed’ my client. Well, they have ‘choosed’, they have ‘choosed’ a murder charge, simply because there was a death that ‘occurred’, so sad that the victim has died over the shots and that is the reason why the murder charge has been preferred,” he said. Even worsening his case, the lawyer went on to explain why the murder charge was pronounced and what his next step would be. “We will be appearing before the High Court, it’s the High Court that has the jurisdiction to entertain matters to do with the jurisdiction of murder. So we will be going for the judge,” he said. It was very clear that English was not the lawyer’s first language, and he would have shared his ideas better using a different language.
Many who heard his broken English camped in the comment section of a post, sharing hilarious replies.
