A family holiday turned tragic when a two and half year old boy drowned in a swimming pool after he ventured there alone in Diani, Kwale County.

The mother and son were on holiday in the area and had taken an apartment for the weekend when the incident happened on Saturday, June 28. The mother told police they were at the apartment when the incident happened at about 1 pm.

The boy ventured into the water and drowned as the mother was preparing food.

The mother walked out while looking for him, minutes later, only to stumble on the body floating in the water at the pool.

He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Police said they are investigating the tragedy.

Elsewhere in Laini Saba, Kibera slums, a woman was found dead in her house.

The deceased, identified as Beatrice Wangui, was alone when she was found in the house on Saturday evening.

The cause of the death is yet to be established, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

And in Ringa, Homa Bay County, one Luke Otieno, 43, was found dead in his maize plantation after he collapsed there.

The body was found a day after he went missing on June 27. He failed to return home before the body was discovered on June 28 in the plantation at about 9 am.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Meanwhile, a man was lynched by a mob in a village in Nyamira County.

The incident happened in the Bonyamatuta area where the victim, identified as George Sagini, 29, was stoned to death and his body set on fire over claims he had stolen a six-kilo gas cylinder.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.

Incidents of mob lynching have been on the rise amid campaigns to address the menace.
