Gen Zs Leak Chats from Parents Warning Them Against Showing up For Protest: “Usiende Tao”

Wednesday, June 25, marks a historic day for Kenyan youth, who will hold a street demonstration to commemorate those killed during the June 25th Occupy Parliament protests. Chats from parents warning children against participating in June 25 demonstrations.  Many Kenyan parents have warned their children not to participate in the Nairobi CBD demonstrations, apprehensive about potential dangers. Parental warnings ahead of memorial protests Taking to X, one youth shared a screenshot of his mother, warning him against setting foot in town.

However, he didn’t take her advice, but instead insisted he would go. “Sasa, kesho usiende tau,” the mum texted. In response, the person cheekily responded: “Poa mum, siendi tau, naenda tao.” In the thread, another young person also shared a screenshot of his private message with his father, warning him not to go to town. “Hi son, I hope you are well. I urge you to remain indoors tomorrow for your safety. Please, it’s your father saying. Goodnight,” read the message. Another parent also urged her son to be careful: “Good morning, hope you are doing well, hii week ya Gen Z. Kindly take care.”

Another father also commanded her son not to go to work on Wednesday, June 25, due to the protest. “Nataka utoke kazini leo kijana yangu.” “Daddy na kazi?” the son asked. “Nimesema nataka utoke kazini. Wametangaza Nairobi kuna maandamano. Nisiskie umeenda uko na mama yako anakungoja sana. Amekupigia simu umekataa kuchukua,” the dad responded. The screenshots in the thread were more than these.
