Georgina Njenga Unfiltered: The Dark Period That Led Her to Quit Social Media

Content creator and social media influencer Georgina Njenga has finally opened up about the reasons behind her unexpected break from social media.

In a candid interview on Prince Newton’s show, Georgina spoke openly about her battle with mental health, alcoholism, and the personal journey that led her back to stability and sobriety.

She revealed that during her hiatus, she was navigating a dark period triggered by heartbreak, which severely affected her mental wellbeing and physical health.

The emotional toll led to significant weight loss, and she turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism — a decision she now regrets.

“I wouldn’t advise anyone to use alcohol as an escape,” she said. “If you choose to drink, do it for fun, not to run from your problems. I became alcoholic as an escape route, and it didn’t end well.”

Georgina shared how her reliance on alcohol only worsened her situation, often leading to regrettable actions and online drama.

“Once you take alcohol for the wrong reasons, when you get too drunk, you snap and start doing things that you won’t like,” she explained.

“I used to find myself in fights or posting absurd things on social media that even my friends urged me to delete.”

At her lowest, she no longer recognised herself. The weight of public scrutiny, personal heartbreak, and destructive habits pushed her into a downward spiral.

However, the turning point came when she realised she needed to be a better person for her daughter.

Determined to change, Georgina embarked on a journey to sobriety — one she credits with completely transforming her life.

Since her return to social media, she appears healthier, more grounded, and mentally stronger.

“It’s peaceful,” she said simply, referring to her life in sobriety.

As part of her healing, Georgina also gained 10 kilograms — a change she embraces, even as she continues to face body shaming online.

“People were making hateful comments, body shaming me for my skinniness. One even said my tattoos are no longer appealing and look like pigweed,” she recalled.
