Pyramids FC were crowned the winners of the CAF Champions league for the 1st time after beating Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa 2-1 in the return leg of the final on Sunday night at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo.

The Egyptian side opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with Fiston Mayele capitalising on a defensive error to find the back of the net.

Later, during the second half, defender Ahmed Samy extended their lead to 2-0 with a powerful header.

Iqraam Rayners pulled a goal back for the Brazilians in the 75th minute, but it was not enough as Pyramids held on to triumph 3-2 on aggregate.

After the first leg concluded in a 1-1 draw at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, Pyramids emerged as winners with a 3-2 aggregate score, becoming the fourth different Egyptian club to lift the trophy, following in the footsteps of Al Ahly, Zamalek, and Ismaily.
