Despite the uncertainty surrounding their title prospects, Ulinzi Starlets tactician Collins Ochieng is focusing on winning their last Kenya Women Premier League fixture against Kisumu All Starlets on Sunday at Ulinzi Sports Complex.
Ulinzi are second on the log with 41 points, two behind Kenya Police Bullets, and their chances of winning the title will depend on whether they win their last fixture and pray for the law enforcers to lose their match against Trinity Starlets at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
While rallying their fans to turn up in large numbers, Ochieng said they have prepared well for the match in their bid to finish the season on a high.
“We have had intensive training for our last fixture, and what we are looking for is a win. We are not under pressure to clinch the title, but if it happens, then it will be an added advantage.
I can say that Kisumu is a good team despite sitting at the bottom of the league, and we will give them the maximum respect they deserve.”
Ulinzi will head to the match after thrashing Desert Scorpions 1-0 in the FKF Women’s Cup round of 16 last weekend, a match that helped Ochieng understand their weaknesses.
“When we were playing Desert Scorpion, I noted some mistakes, more so in our striking and defence department, but I have worked on them, and we are good to go on Sunday.
“I thank God that I have no injury doubts, and that will give me adequate time to win the fixture.”
Other fixtures will see Kisped take on four-time champions Vihiga Queens at Moi Stadium in Kisumu, Kibera Soccer Women will play Mombasa Olympic at Marist International University, and Bunyore Starlets will complete their fixture against Bungoma Queens at Mumboha Grounds.
