Speaking to Legendary radio personality Maina Kageni on the “Let Me Tell You Maina podcast, Sanaipei said that the secret is that she takes her time before releasing any project to the public.
The beauty said that in her musical works, she often likes to focus on using words that convey relevant meanings to her target fans and not on poetic flow.
“I take my time, especially with the lyrics. For me, it is not just about rhyming, but it is about making sense and using the best possible words to express what I want to put out there. I usually take my time, I don’t just get into the studio and start recording,” she said.
Tande advised artists hoping to produce good music to embrace the time-consuming approach to crafting a meaningful song.
She said that she often dislikes being rushed into the studio and asked to collaborate without even being given time to prepare and know what words she will use to convey the message in her lines.
“I have been asked to record some collaboration, and they don’t give you your lines and they book studio time and then they say we’ve booked studio, you just come and write your lines in the studio. For me, that’s a NO. People are in a hurry, and they think they’ve got a gem, but if you don’t take the time, then it can’t reach its full potential,” she advised.
Sanaipei revealed that she can record a song, but will take time to listen to it in different environments and analyze it to know where to improve before finally releasing it to the public.
It is a technique she credits with making most of her songs instant hits upon release.
“I take a track, I listen to it while in the car, I listen to it while doing laundry, all the time coming up with different lyrics,” she added.
Sanaipei shocked Maina when she revealed that she doesn’t like to have anyone in the studio while recording a song except the producer. She said that even in all the collaborations she has done with artists like Wyre, Nadia Mukami, Otile Brown, and others, she would enter the studio and kick everyone out before starting to record her part.
This one, she said, gives her time to be in her own space to execute her job with precision.
