Kenya Power has announced a temporary disruption affecting its bill payment services through the popular mobile Paybill number 888888, citing a system interruption.

In a notice issued to customers, the electricity provider said the technical glitch is preventing payments from being processed via the Paybill platform.

The company has assured the public that technicians are working urgently to restore services.

“While we work to resolve the issue and restore normal operations as soon as possible, we urge our customers to make payments at Kenya Power banking halls, which remain open across the country,” the company stated.

Kenya Power apologised for the inconvenience and encouraged customers seeking more information or assistance to reach out through its official platforms:WhatsApp, Twitter – Main Account, Twitter – Customer Care and Facebook

The Paybill in question is used for postpaid bills.

For prepaid bills, customers can use the Paybill 888880.

Further, users can pay using USSD code *977#, which was introduced in 2020.

The service allows customers to make prepaid and postpaid payments, buy tokens, retrieve last three token purchases and report outages.

It also enables customers to request new connections and verify identities of Kenya Power employees/contractors.

The authorised banks for postpaid agencies are Absa Bank, Citi Bank, Cooperative Bank, Family Bank, Equity Bank, I&M Bank, NCBA Bank, Stanbic Bank, National Bank, DTB Kenya Limited, and KCB Bank.

Customers seeking a new connection from the electricity firm can make their payments via the M-Pesa Paybill number 888899.

On September 1, 2024, KPLC locked out third-party agents from selling tokens to pre-paid customers.

The energy utility firm said payments for tokens and postpaid bills was restricted to only its authorised channels.
