Tucked along Valley Road, just behind the Department of Defence headquarters, CITAM Valley Road is a striking example of understated luxury in religious architecture. The cabro-paved compound is well-maintained and also hosts Pan Africa Christian (PAC) University, showing a blend of faith and education.
Inside, the sanctuary is thoughtfully designed with two levels of seating on the ground floor and a mezzanine. There are no plastic chairs here; congregants sit on plush maroon chairs, while leadership occupies sleek black ones. At the front stands an elegant oak pulpit set on a deep red carpet. A high-tech sound system ensures clarity of speech and music, reflecting the church’s investment in quality. CITAM Valley Road is the financial powerhouse of the wider Christ Is the Answer Ministries (CITAM) network. In 2024, it reportedly collected KSh 404 million in tithes and offerings alone, making it the top-earning assembly in the ministry’s 35-branch network. David Oyier, who often passes by Valley Road, told TUKO.co.ke that the unassuming church comes alive on Sundays. “You will find fuel guzzlers parked outside the church, spilling onto adjacent roads,” he said. The entire ministry recorded an income of KSh 2.4 billion that year, supported by multiple revenue streams beyond Sunday services. CITAM’s ventures include ten schools across the country, a private university (PAC), and Hope Media, which runs both a TV and radio station.
The church also owns hospitality properties like CITAM Kadolta Resort in Kiserian, signalling strategic diversification. Alongside CITAM, churches like Nairobi Chapel and Mavuno Church stood out. All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi was also recognised for its strong presence and resources. Karura Community Chapel experienced steady financial growth, with its income rising from KSh 186.6 million in 2022 to KSh 215.8 million in 2023, and KSh 222.3 million in 2024. . Nairobi Baptist Church reported an income of KSh 209.3 million for the 2019 financial year. Other churches, including Jubilee Christian Church, Faith Evangelistic Ministry, Jesus Celebration Centre Bamburi, Jesus Is Alive Ministries, and Neno Evangelism Centre, had not disclosed their earnings.
