Waititu granted leave from prison to amend appeal seeking release on bail

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, who is currently serving a prison sentence after being convicted on corruption-related charges, has been granted permission to amend his petition seeking release on bail.

Waititu had earlier filed an application before the High Court challenging his conviction.

However, his initial request for bail was dismissed, with the court assuring that the appeal would be heard expeditiously.

In a new application, Waititu sought to amend his petition to introduce new evidence and additional grounds in support of his case.

The court has now allowed this amendment, giving Waititu a fresh opportunity to argue for his release as he continues to appeal the conviction.

The former governor was sentenced to 12 years in prison or pay Ksh. 52.5 million after he was found guilty of conflict of interest in a Ksh.588 million graft case.

Waititu was similarly barred from vying for any political seat for a period of 7 years.

Waititu was charged along with his wife, Susan Ndung’u, who was slapped with a one-year imprisonment or pay a fine of Ksh.500,000.
