China on Wednesday outlined a comprehensive five-point plan to strengthen bilateral ties with Kenya.
Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan stated that the steps are aimed at advancing shared modernization goals between China and Kenya.
She emphasized mutual prosperity, governance collaboration, and opposition to global interference, marking a significant step in South-South cooperation.
“China will strive to provide certainty to this uncertain world with its own development in this world marked by transformation and instability,” Guo said.
The envoy announced five key initiatives aimed at helping China and Kenya realise the shared modernization dream.
Amb Guo said modernization needed a political foundation hence the two sides would enhance high-level exchanges and share governance strategies.
“The aim is to improve administrative capabilities and foster stability,” she said, adding, “We will make thorough efforts to develop a unified national market.”
The other initiative revolves around economic and material cooperation with plans including deepening traditional sector collaboration while expanding into emerging fields like the digital economy, AI, green energy, and healthcare to drive innovation-led growth.
Ambassador Guo further stated that China and Kenya would enhance intellectual and cultural exchange.
The focus areas include STEM education, vocational training, and people-to-people exchanges to cultivate skilled talent and deepen mutual understanding.
“No matter how the word changes, China will stay committed to the path of peaceful development and remain firm in pursuing a mutually beneficial strategy of opening up,” the envoy said.
China also pledged to oppose “hegemonism, unilateralism, and protectionism,” vowing to safeguard core interests and reject geopolitical containment.
“China will strive for solid progress in high-quality belt and road cooperation, making unremitting efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind,” Guo said.
The partnership will extend to multilateral platforms like the WTO, African Union, and BRICS to advocate for fairer global governance and regional stability.
“The underlying trend of China’s long-term economic growth has not changed and will not change,” she said.
The envoy urged Kenya to cooperate closely with Beijing in international and regional affairs. “We need to work together to safeguard the common interests of the Global South,” the ambassador quipped.
She further urged countries in the global south to cooperate to “promote regional peace and stability and advocate democratization of international relations as well as modernization of global governance.”
Guo spoke at the prestigious Hong Ting Forum held in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.
The forum was hosted by the African Regional Bureau of Xinhua News Agency and was aimed at bridging the policy and developmental insights.
She expressed optimism for the initiative’s role in advancing the Global South’s collective future.
“This partnership is a blueprint for equitable progress,” the envoy noted, underscoring the forum’s alignment with broader goals of democratizing international relations.
