First Lady Rachel Ruto is still trending over her outfit choice during King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands visit. Did Rachel Ruto repeat an outfit? Rachel wore a peplum top and matching skirt while hosting the Dutch royal couple at State House Nairobi. The peplum top had a dramatic layering on the waistline matching the skirt’s ruffled hem.  Kenyans criticised the First Lady’s outfit on social media and an online sleuth unleashed a photo of Rachel from 2024. She was a guest at Kipchumba Karori’s wedding. Rachel seemingly wore the same outfit at the wedding that she did welcoming the royals. The only difference was the heels. She paired her look with block heels while hosting the royals while in 2024, she wore black high-heeled shoes. The apparent outfit repeat has caused a debate on social media with some defending the president’s wife and others criticising her wardrobe. Is it wrong to repeat an outfit? some argued that Kenyans are giving Rachel a hard time.

Others opined that the First Lady’s attire reflects her sense of propriety and national identity. One Kenyan shared: “When she buys expensive clothes, it’s opulence. When she rudias a perfectly good African dress that even our mums would wear, she still gets insulted. You guys are just personal and dislike Rachel. There’s nothing song with their cultural dress.” Rachel Ruto during Kipchumba Karori’s wedding in 2024. Photo: Rachel Ruto. @RaymondMatata: “When she wears expensive watch wanapiga kelele.” @MugishaLinda2: “As she should, normal human beings rebound clothes, stop trying to castigate her for not holding up the standards you set for her.” @JayPaulKe: “No one is faulting anyone for buying cheap clothes. You have to find the clothes that match you as first lady just like the former first lady used to. Uwezi vaa nguo zinakutoa kama tent and yet to you can afford the best fashionist in the country to advice on the same.” @ItsChanzu: “First lady ata amerudia nguo.” @SirLV: “Guys hear me out, she looks very nice in this pic. It’s the heels and the smile. The other one, the shoes were off and she looked like she was cringing and totally uncomfortable.”

@Arochophilemon “What people fail to understand is that leadership comes with expectations…there is someone you know who wears expensive but do not look good in them…let he be simple and nice. Hiyo style aachie our mother’s in the village.”  @Maua_the_firstL “On this one I agree. Let people dress as they wish, it’s their choice. People can be unkind. Perhaps she can afford a better stylist, but there was nothing wrong with how she was dressed! Ni chuki mingi tu hadi people lost balance .”
