Why Football Legend Dennis Oliech Turned Down Sh200Million

Football legend Dennis Oliech turned down Ksh200 million to switch nationality from Kenyan to Qatari.

In an interview with Radio47, the footballer explained his reason on Feb 15, 2025

“They told me to change my nationality from Kenyan to Qatari and they will pay me 200 million, I called some people who know of the place to give me guidance, but they told me it is my choice for I am the one who had stayed there so I know everything including the weather “he said

Dennis had been living in Qatar for 3 years where he was playing for Al-Arabi

“People from there are very bad and are only good when they need something from you but if they don’t need you, they will be bad, and I could not accept that offer “he said

Oliech continued by explaining that even people working for the Arabs cannot go outside the country without a letter from the one who has employed them, making it look like slavery, and he thinks that’s what differentiates the Arabs from Kenyans.

“This is the best decision I have ever made in my life the Arabs could have taken my passport and plant alcohol in my room, and I would have rotten in jail, and all that money could have gone to waste “he said

Oliech Monaco to sign Oliech.
Oliech is currently living in Kenya after retiring from playing football and is still remembered as one of the best strikers Kenya has ever had.

Oliech has also advocated for retired athletes and appealed to the government to recognize and support retired athletes, saying that many live in poverty. He had also said that Kenya doesn’t recognize legends in sports like football, basketball and even athletes who have put Kenya’s flag on the map.
