Officials from the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) and the County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) are in Kampala, Uganda, to organize the upcoming East African Local Authorities Cultural Association (EALASCA) Games.

The games will be held at the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) from February 23 to 28, 2025.

The event will feature a diverse range of activities, including football, netball, volleyball, basketball, handball, table tennis, badminton, tug of war, cultural dances, and choir performances, aiming to showcase the region’s rich cultural heritage and athletic prowess.

During the inaugural planning meeting, Kenyans secured significant leadership positions in the event’s organizing committees.

KICOSCA Secretary General Kimutai Sitinei was elected to be EALASCA Treasurer, Fred Onundu was elected to be Technical Committee Chairman and Duncan “Sugar Ray” Kuria was elected EALASCA Publicity Chairman.

Nairobi County Assembly majority leader Hon. Peter Imwotok was elected Vice chairman of EALASCA

“Kampala is ‘home away from home’ for Kenyans. Sports integrate us, and when we play together, we learn from each other’s cultures. A strong social fabric is the foundation for political unity,” he said.

Frank Rusa, the Executive Director of KCCA and the patron of the games, expressed his excitement about hosting the event.

“I like the idea of East African leaders taking the bull by the horns, fostering more interactions through sports. Our president [Museveni] is deeply passionate about East African integration, which strengthens us as a region.

“Building solid social relationships now will make the political integration of the future easier,” he stated.

The EALASCA Games will bring together participants from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, and other East African nations, aiming to strengthen regional ties through sports and cultural exchange.

The event underscores the role of sports and culture in promoting unity and cooperation across the region.

This will mark the third time Kampala has hosted the EALASCA Games, cementing its reputation as a central hub for regional sporting and cultural events.
