Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has reignited her presidential ambitions, declaring her intention to contest for the country’s top seat in the 2027 General Election. Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua said she was ready to contest for the country’s top seat in the 2027 General Election. During a roundtable discussion at K24 on Tuesday, November 25, Karua expressed confidence in her ability to challenge President William Ruto and emerge victorious.
The veteran politician stated that she would toss herself into the contention and let Kenyans make an informed choice on the ballot. “Am I not a person? Listen… watch my steps and don’t force me to be a follower.
If I was a running mate, isn’t that enough? I will place myself on the field, and it will be Kenyans who decide who among all of us is suitable,” she stated. Karua, a seasoned politician with over three decades of experience, last contested the presidency in 2013, finishing a distant sixth in a race won by former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
What are Karua’s proposals to coming up with good candidate In her remarks, Karua stressed the importance of a fair and competitive process in determining leadership, not just within opposition circles but also nationally. She called for the opposition to unite through a structured competition before having a competitive process to choose one of them. Karua took a subtle jab at Ruto’s administration, using the controversial Adani deals to illustrate her point about merit-based decision-making.
“For those of us leaning on the same side of the opposition, if possible, we should all develop ourselves individually so that when the time comes, we have a method to choose one of us—through competition and competitiveness. If we advocate for competitiveness in tenders, even for things like the Adani tender, then the presidency should also have competitiveness,” she said.
The veteran politician also dismissed the notion of anyone receiving a political ticket as a gift, underscoring her belief in earning leadership positions through hard work. “No one will be handed a ticket on a silver platter; it will be a battle, and whoever emerges victorious will earn it. Even the Azimio ticket was not handed over on a silver platter,” Karua said.
